ABOUT US
We are the Durban chapter of
ASSA (The Astronomical Society of Southern Africa).
The Astronomical Society of
Southern Africa – Durban Centre meets at 7:30 p.m. on the 2nd Wednesday
of each month at the Pavilion at Marist Brothers College , South Ridge
Road, Durban. (Directions below)
We represent a friendly
community of people who are interested in the widely varied fields
encompassed under the umbrella of Astronomy, but are commonly linked by
the fact that we cannot help but look up at the skies with awe and
wonder.
If you have a passion for
looking at the sky, learning about the science of Astronomy, dabble in
Cosmology or if you are just curious and want to see what Astronomy is
all about, then you will greatly enjoy our meetings.
If you would like to attend our
next meeting as a guest, we would love to see you there. There is no
charge and you are welcome regardless of your level of Astronomical
knowledge.
Our meetings generally consist
of a NASA update, a summary of what to look for in the Night sky in the
following month and a half hour talk followed by tea/coffee and general
discussion. This is usually followed up with viewing through telescopes
- weather permitting.
In addition, on occasion we have viewing evenings at our Observatory,
which is in the grounds at Marist Brothers. If you would like to learn
more about our observatory and viewing evenings please follow the
'Contact Us' link on the left and speak to any one of our members for
further information.
We publish a monthly newsletter,
the N'daba.
